Actions ...


An action is the perfection and publication of thought.

Actions I lived today

1. Positive Mental Attitude: When you awake each morning recite the affirmation "I feel healthy, I feel happy, I feel terrific!" Do this several times mentally and even out loud and see how your day goes. Give it time.
I woke up this morning & read a couple chapters from an inspirational book called, Simple Truths by Kent Nerburn.  This is the thought & action I carried with me today to help me have a positive mental attitude.

2. Sound Physical Health: Each day decide to eat healthy choices - at least for the meal you are currently having. No need to plan a month's menu - just remind yourself that you are the custodian of your own health, and that as caregiver you want to always select the best available options each day at every meal. 
Today marked my 8th early morning workout at Curves (It's a start).  I find that I am enjoying getting my day started early.  It motivates me - by 10am I have woke up, dressed, left the house, worked out, chatted with people, come home, showered, eaten breakfast,updated My Fitness Pal and I am ready to start the rest of my day.  This is the thought & action I carried with me today to help me make healthy choices.

3. Harmony in Human Relationships: Instead of initiating a disagreement, initiate a solution. Refrain from combative behavior. Work toward collaboration. 

4. Freedom from Fear: Little fears can lead to enormous ones. Always remember faith is the opposite of fear. Act in faith instead of failing to act due to fear. 

5. The Hope of Achievement: Inspire yourself by creating a dream of your own to conceive, believe, and achieve. 

6. The Capacity for Faith: Stretch your mind to embrace choices made with faith as the backbone to your decision. Soon you could sprout wings! 

7. Willingness to Share One's Blessings: Make someone else's day. Focus on being the bearer of goodness instead of the recipient. 

8. A Labor of Love: Do something each day that you love to do and would do regardless of the compensation. 

9. An Open Mind on All Subjects: Say "yes" to an invitation that you would rather decline because you are not sure you would enjoy it. 

10. Self-Discipline: Do a little more, work a little harder, tackle the dreaded task for the sake of showing yourself who is your real boss. 
Today it was really important to me that I completed 4 workouts in a single week period.  I can be very easily dissuaded & knocked off course - it doesn't take much.  So today I focused on my goals and made them a priority - I have no regrets about today's choices.   This is the thought & action I carried with me today to help me improve my self-discipline.

11. The Capacity to Understand People: Learn to enjoy the company of diverse groups of people. Be all-embracing rather than exclusionary. 

12. Financial Security: Make setting aside money for a future purpose a game of sorts that represents gratification - but at a later date. Mark savings on a calendar with an ending date and final amount in mind. You are not denying yourself, but rewarding yourself on a designated date.

cupcakes ...

And so begins the cupcake challenge.
Let me be perfectly clear - I did not buy them. 
They were brought into my life quite unexpectedly and without warning however I will admit to opening the door & inviting them in. 

Well, I couldn't be rude, could I?

So now they are sitting in my kitchen, screaming for attention but I continue to ignore them. 

I must - because rewarding that kind of behavior can have serious consequences. 

It's hard though, turning my back on them I mean, but in a cupcake challenge there can only be one winner.

I will stand firm, I will thrive, I will win this challenge!

I will earn my change and wear it well!

Time ...

Time brings all things to pass.

Looking back I realize that when I was young I never noticed time - it was almost meaningless. The sun rose - the day started, the sun set -  it ended.  Life was simple.

Making the connection between time & life, learning the value of time and understanding that the tick-tock of time was really the heartbeat of my life didn't come until much later. 

Growing up saw a lot of 'hurry up & wait' and wasted time and like most, I was ignorant of life/time's full value and ephemeral nature.

Childhood seemed to require that we pay little or no attention to the constant tick.tock.tick.tock.tick.tock that beats tirelessly in the background of life.  It was barely noticeable to me and easily overlooked because when you're young all you want is to grow up, fast, to by-pass much your youth in exchange for that mystical & mythical illusion of freedom that so many thinks comes with adulthood.  Me included.

For many years I just assumed that time was on my side - I think I actually believed that I would never grow old, that I could outrun time  ...

If I ran, life ran, if I walked, life walked and when I crawled, life time crawled right along side me but time, time doesn't slow down or hurry up, it just marches forward.

As the years passed - I began to notice my life had become worn, it had begun to fray around the edges, discolor and become gray with the patina of age.

I was letting time overtake me and I had lost the the urge or ability to fight back.  I had surrendered. 

Time had become my stalker - waiting patiently, watching and I have since learned that time cannot tolerate being wasted.  A good life requires that I keep moving forward. 

But I had begun to shrink and wither  - I was letting time was win this battle.

But today, instead of just laying low and playing dead, as time moves onward with the tick-tock precision of a German army marching off to war I ready myself for battle and while I know this is a war I cannot win - I also know that there are many battles to be fought along the way and many small victories to claim as my own.

To be sure, time is a thief, one that will steal my final breath from me without hesitation but I now also realize that time is a precious enemy, one to be safely guarded & held dear because I know that as I get older it will become even more valuable.  

This year I will focus on learning how to create a life where I can THRIVE & grow and I now realize that means I must first learn to embrace time and not fear or ignore it. 

I must learn to spend it wisely, frugally and use it with forethought and not indifference.  I must learn where to best spend my time because in the end it's just that ... it mine!

So, know this, if I am spending my time with you it is because I want to -  because I love you & you are important to me and it is not because I feel that I am obliged to or otherwise have to. 

From this day on, I will no longer lose or waste time simply because my Mother, God Rest Her Soul, taught me to be a good girl and never put myself ahead of others.  She taught me, as many women teach their daughters,  that other people's time & needs were always somehow a little more important than my own. 

I have now decided that she was mistaken about this.  

While she was a very, very good mother and right to teach me that the needs of other people are very important and I thank her for that lesson - I believe she was wrong to teach to me that other people mattered more and that somehow their time (meaning their lives)  were somehow more precious or important than mine - they are not!

Spending your time wisely on things that matter and saying 'no' to those that don't does not make you greedy, selfish or self-centered.  It does not make you a bad girl.  I makes you a strong girl, someone in charge of their own life, their destiny - someone who can THRIVE in their own life.

In a word, I have learned that to begin thriving I must begin to understand & acknowledge my own self-worth - this will be a hard lesson but it is never too late to learn.

The secret of life is enjoying the passage of time.

7 years young

My very 1st blog post was titled, 'Having a Happy Day' and looked like this ...
I love these flowers!   

Every time I look at this picture it gives me a smiley face so I have chosen it for my first post.

I received  these flowers.. but sometimes life just isn't that playful, but today is good and today I am happy.

My 2nd blog post was called, 'Love/Hate' and looked like this ...

1. I am the "Flubber" of optimism - every day is a fresh start.
8. I love nature ~ it makes perfect sense to me!
9. I am slightly creative & creatively delusional at all times.
10. I never take myself or life too seriously, my nickname growing up was - "Happy Go Lucky".

What to do....

I love reading over my old journal entries (posts) it gives me a sense of self, time and brings on a flood of memories and emotions.   

It reminds me that I have a story, filled with many boring parts to be sure, but it's my story nonetheless and no illness, person or time can take it from me. 

I have always kept a journal of some sort and 7 years ago began blogging.  

My blog(s) have never been very exciting or well read but they are important to me because they help me organize, maintain and chronicle my life.

If I don't write it down - I don't remember it.  It's just that simple.

Over the past 7 years I have on several occasions, gotten 'blogged down' and either lost posts (due to changing blogging platforms) or simply lost interest in me and quite blogging.

I hate having these holes in my memories!

For example, when I have switched from the Typepad blogging platform to Blogger I lost 4 years of blog posts.  (I am now trying figure out how to get them back) 

I started blogging again late 2013 when I started my newest blog 'The Recycled House & Garden' and the 'PNW Walkabout' and I've slowly begun to post more often and I can enjoy it again. 

I am getting ready to start posting to my 'The Careless Gardener' which will chronicle the restoration & renewal of the yard and gardens of my new house.  

I am so looking forward to those posts.

Life goes on, it's the start of a new year - I think i'm ready to begin again ...
